The YMCA of Pittsburg, Kansas, upholds a Code of Conduct to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all members, program participants, guests, and visitors. To promote safety and respect, the Y has established guidelines for acceptable behavior. Prohibited actions include, but are not limited to, failing to check in at the membership desk, wearing inappropriate attire, and engaging in verbally abusive behavior, such as swearing, shouting, or name-calling.
The Y also prohibits physical aggression, sexual activity, harassment, theft, and the possession or use of weapons. Smoking, alcohol, and illegal drug use are strictly forbidden on YMCA property. Recording others without their consent and loitering are not allowed.
In its commitment to safety, the YMCA reserves the right to conduct background checks and deny access to anyone who violates the Code of Conduct, has a criminal record involving sexual abuse, or is involved in excessive drug or alcohol use. If there is a suspicion of illegal substances or stolen property, the YMCA may search belongings and involve law enforcement as needed. These measures ensure that the YMCA remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
Youth Supervision Policy
At your Pittsburg Family YMCA, we prioritize the safety of all members and program participants. For this policy, “YOUTH” refers to children ages 10 and younger. To ensure safety, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Children ages 10 and under must either attend a YMCA program or be accompanied by a parent or guardian at least 18 years old.
- All children ages 17 and under must have current emergency contact information on file with the Welcome Center.
- All members, guests, and visitors, including children, must sign in at the Welcome Desk for facility access.
- All members must have a membership card and a photo on file.
- Children 12 and under must be supervised at all times.
- Locker rooms are available for daily use; please secure personal belongings.
- Cell phone and video recording use is prohibited, except during Special Events and Parent Observation Days.
- The Pittsburg Family YMCA verifies members and guests through the National Sex Offender Registry and may deny access to those listed.

- Guests must follow the YMCA Code of Conduct.

Member Agreement and Responsibilities
The YMCA requires appropriate attire to ensure safety, comfort, and respect for all members. Indecent clothing is prohibited. Closed-toe athletic shoes are required in the Wellness Center, and dangling keychains or jewelry are not allowed. Proper swimwear is required in the pool, and towels are recommended.
If my monthly membership dues are returned for nonpayment, I will be responsible for the dues plus a $25 non-sufficient funds fee. After two returned payments, the YMCA may cancel my membership, incurring an additional $25 fee for the second return. Rejoining requires paying the balance and new member fees. Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable. Monthly dues support YMCA operations. I understand that my membership is ongoing, and I may choose automatic draft, which will be processed on the 1st of every month. I authorize Pittsburg Family YMCA to initiate an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
To terminate or change your YMCA membership, submit a written notice via the Membership Cancellation Form at the Welcome Desk, by email, or log into your account to cancel before the 1st of your final month. If submitted after the 1st, one final draft will be processed, and your membership will end that month.
As a courtesy, we allow members to put their membership on hold for up to 3 months in a calendar year. Members must complete the Membership Change form, located at the Member Services Desk, by the 25th of the month.
Members must renew their membership on or before the expiration date on their card for continuous access to the facilities. Members who do not renew within 30 days after expiration will incur a new member fee and will not be considered renewing members. This does not apply to bank draft memberships, which are perpetual.
Each time you come to the Y, please bring your membership identification card. For security reasons, all members must scan their membership card at the Welcome Center upon entering. Guests are required to check in at the Welcome Desk and pay a day pass fee.
- All swimmers aged 12 and under must pass a swim test administered by YMCA Aquatics staff before family swim.
- Children who pass can access deep areas, while those who do not must be supervised in shallow areas.
- Parents/guardians of children 6 and under must remain within arm’s reach in the water.
- For ages 7-10, adults must supervise from the pool deck.
- Swimmers under 48” tall using a life preserver must have a parent/guardian in the water within arm’s reach at all times.
